Dr. Alvin Ellerby was not only a distinguished engineer but also a devoted community leader, pastor, and visionary founder. A graduate of UCLA with both B.S. and M.S. degrees in Mechanical Engineering, Dr. Ellerby earned further distinction with a M.S. in Theology from Virginia Union Theological Seminary and a Doctorate in Theology from Westminster Theological Seminary—each degree achieved summa cum laude.Throughout his accomplished career, Dr. Ellerby held executive and senior leadership roles in engineering and management at Ross and Baruzzini, Glumac, Mustang Engineering, BE&K, and Fluor Corporation. As a pioneer in the development and application of finite element methods for nuclear reactor design, he earned numerous awards for outstanding contributions to engineering.Dr. Ellerby also dedicated his life to ministry and family. As the Pastor of Greater New Hope Missionary Baptist Church and President and CEO of Greater New Hope Family Services, he served as a beacon of hope, guidance, and wisdom. He was a devoted husband to Linda, father to four children, and proud grandfather to two. His legacy as a teacher, leader, and advocate for families lives on through the mission and impact of Greater New Hope.

Linda Ellerby is a dedicated educator, administrator, and community advocate. She holds both B.S. and M.S. degrees in Special Education from the University of South Alabama, along with a M.S. in Educational Leadership from the University of South Florida. Linda’s passion for service has shaped her long-standing career in both public and private education—as a teacher, principal, assistant principal, and district supervisor across Florida, Alabama, and Oregon.Linda is a driving force within Greater New Hope, serving as the First Lady and Administrative Assistant of Greater New Hope Missionary Baptist Church, the Coordinator of Greater New Hope Family Services, and Director of the General Baptist Youth Convention of the Northwest. Her leadership extends beyond the classroom—she has been a Girl Scout leader, PTA president, volunteer for Mother’s Against Drunk Driving, and statewide coordinator for peer support initiatives benefiting schools and families.Linda’s expertise in family group conferencing, parent training, and teen mentoring continues to inspire positive change and growth for youth and families throughout the Portland area.
